Blansko Hospital Characteristics

Blansko Hospital is an allowance organisation having legal personality; it was established by the town of Blansko on 10th February 1994. However, the history of the Blansko hospital dates back to 1985. The director of the hospital is legal representative. Director is appointed by founder - the town of Blansko - upon a selection procedure.

The Blansko Hospital is a health centre focusing on medical treatment and preventive medicine. It is also a basic element of the health care system. The scope of medical services includes treatment of inpatients and outpatients, basic and specialised diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive medical care. There are six bed departments in the hospital having 215 beds - 12 intensive care units, 173 standard care units and 30 post care units.

In 2006, the Blansko Hospital started the certification procedure according to standard ČSN EN ISO 9001:2001 in all hospital departments. The certification was accomplished in December 2007 when departments of the Blansko Hospital acquired the certificates. The implemented ISO standard is supposed to establish the level of quality of supplied services and constantly improve their quality. The aim of the Blansko Hospital is to acquire the health centre accreditations and be more competitive in the medical care market.

Most of the departments supply the medical services to the population of the Blansko region. The department of nuclear medicine is, however, rather exceptional, as it is the only nuclear medicine centre having bed department in South Moravia. It treats patients from neighbouring parts of the Czech-Moravian Highland region, the East Bohemia region and the Olomouc region. The central reception point enables to ensure high quality treatment of patients having acute health problems. It provides services for the enlisted departments, outpatients of the hospital departments, patients of independent general practitioners within the Blansko region. These services are complement, i.e. includes radiography department and clinical laboratories department, and continuous, i.e. twenty-four-hour service. The continuous service has been also introduced in the outpatient?s surgery departments. This department provides consultant services for other departments of the hospital.

Since July 2006, pharmaceutical services are supplied by the hospital pharmacy, including supplies of pharmaceutical items during reception hours of the emergency department. The Blansko Hospital receives approximately 5,000 inpatients every year. In addition to that, outpatients are treated in specialized departments of the hospital.

The hospital has 401 employees, including 61 physicians, 262 members of medical staff and 78 members of non-medical staff. The hospital has met all requirements of health insurance companies and relevant legislation concerning staff of all departments and equipment, including expensive medical equipment.

The Blansko Hospital manages financial resources resulting from its own activities and its funds, resources from the budget of founder and/or state budget and donations of physical persons and legal entities. The management of the hospital follows the approved budget which is drafted as balanced budget. The Blansko Hospital is a rare example of a hospital in the Czech Republic having positive economic results and no unpaid debts after due date.
